Why enroll your child at Bluffview?
Why should you enroll your child at Bluffview? Here are ten good reasons to consider, followed by a video of parent testimonials.
The Montessori Advantage. Our students enjoy all the advantages of a Montessori education.
Individualized instruction. Students get extended one-on-one instruction from their teachers on a regular basis, allowing each child to work at his or her own pace. Children who need extra help get it, and children who are ready to move ahead are free to do so.
Student choice. Students have the freedom to choose from a wide range of work within their teacher-guided work plan. Our curriculum emphasizes math, language, cultural studies, geometry, and science. Student choice promotes independence, responsibility, curiosity, and creativity.
Low student-teacher ratio. Two teachers in every classroom (lead and assistant) enable Bluffview to maintain a low student-teacher ratio. Our lead teachers are Montessori trained and certified, in addition to having their state teaching licensure.
Great outcomes. Our students typically enjoy great outcomes. About 80 percent make the honor roll during their freshman year of high school, and our school has one of the top test ratings of all Winona schools, according to Education.com.
Extended work time. Bluffview students are given an extended time to work—around three hours—almost every day. They may use this time to work independently or with other students. Extended work time promotes concentration, responsibility, self-sufficiency, collaboration skills, and a natural love of learning.
Mixed-age classrooms. Mixed-age classrooms allow older, more experienced students to help younger students; the younger students get extra assistance, while the older students learn how to teach others. Both students learn collaboration skills.
Special classes. In addition to the core curriculum, Bluffview students also take classes in art, physical education, and music. Children in 5th grade and up can to receive instrumental music instruction in either band or orchestra.
Welcoming environment. Montessori's founder believed students work best in a calm, orderly, welcoming environment. This philosophy is reflected in the careful design of our school. Each classroom is filled with interesting and engaging materials, neatly organized, and accented with plants, an animal (or two), plenty of light, and direct access to the outdoors.
A strong community. Our status as a public charter school (the first Montessori charter school in the nation) encourages strong parent and teacher involvement, and gives us to flexibility to innovate.
