Instrumental Music Program

Beginning in fifth grade, students have the opportunity to participate in our instrumental music program. Students may learn woodwind, brass, percussion, or select string instruments. Students start in the Beginning Band and progress into the Concert Band. There is an extracurricular group called Jam Band that meets after school and plays music selected by the students. Students participating in the instrumental music program receive individual or small group instruction once a week and practice with the band once or twice a week as well. Instrumental music students put on a band concert once a year, as well as a Cookie Recital in the spring.

Vocal Music Program

Elementary students receive general music education, including instruction with Orff instruments, in half-hour classes twice a week. Erdkinder students participate in hour-long choir lessons once a week. Students give concerts several times a year.

About the Teacher

I have taught at Bluffview since 2016. I am a member of the Winona Brass Band and Winona Municipal Band. Formerly I taught General and Instrumental music in northeast Iowa. Outside of music, my wife and I enjoy biking, fishing, and Harry Potter. Our family keeps us quite busy. We have a son, Benny, an English Bulldog, Ludo, and soon a baby Dubis arriving in November.

I have great fun teaching the variety of music classes at Bluffview. Whether band, choir, or general music, every chance to share music is a blast. I have always enjoyed the excitement of new musicians when they first figure something out. Students show a lot of pride when they first know how to read a rhythm, sing a particular song, or play their instrument.
